What is a firm mattress?

A firm mattress is a type of mattress that provides a high level of support and typically has a minimal amount of cushioning. Firm mattresses are designed to keep the body in a relatively flat position, which can help keep the spine aligned and prevent it from sinking into the mattress. A firm mattress is rated a ‘4’ on our scale of firmness, with 1 being softest and 5 being the firmest.

Is a firm mattress better for back pain?

Firm mattresses are often recommended for people who have back pain, as they can provide a supportive surface that keeps the spine in a neutral position. 

What is the best firm mattress?

The best firm mattress for you will depend on your personal preferences, your sleeping position and whether or not you have back problems. For the ultimate comfort, we recommend hybrid firm mattresses which contain both memory foam and pocket springs, such as our Bamboo nurture mattress.

Are firm mattresses good for side sleepers?

Firm mattresses are generally not recommended for side sleepers. When sleeping on your side, your body’s weight is concentrated on the hips and shoulders, and a firm mattress may not provide enough give to properly cushion these areas, which can result in uncomfortable pressure points. We would recommend a medium or medium firm mattress for side sleepers.
