How Picking Up A Pen Can Help You Nod Off
A racing mind is the single biggest factor that keeps the country awake at night – with the stresses and strains of everyday life rushing to the fore as soon as we turn out the light.
Worrying about what the future holds, stressing over things that have happened in the past and getting concerned about what we have to face the following day are among the top five persistent thoughts that keep our brains ticking over, and once they start it is very difficult to stop them.
So what can be done to calm a racing mind? Yoga, breathing techniques and even counting sheep are all suggested methods. Another, seemingly unusual method, is to pick up a pen and paper.
“The practice of writing your thoughts down is a cathartic exercise – it helps expel the concerns, worries and anxieties that are keeping you awake, clearing your mind so you can sleep soundly,” said our CEO Steve Pickering.
He and the rest of the Sussex Beds team are experts in creating the right environment for a good night’s shuteye, having traded in sleep for more than 40 years.
“Half of Britons have said stress or worry keeps them up at night and it can be a vicious circle with one negative thought leading to another and another before they start to spiral seemingly out of control,” Steve added.
“Sitting up, grabbing a pen and paper and writing down such thoughts is a physical activity that gets them out of your mind and helps you take back control.”
So why not give it a try! Get yourself a notepad and pen and write down everything that is on your mind… Trust us it really can help!
